When is it legal for a police officer to point a handgun at you?

if you are in the state of california it is legal for them to pull it out for Officer safety. I can tell you this just about anything can be used as a weapon to harm somone cause great bodily injury or kill someone. Just google home made prison wepons. Second you never know what someone might reach for in a place you are not familiar with they could have a weapon such as a nife or gun hidden close by an suddenly pull it out. Put yourself in that officers shoes if it was you would you take the risk of someone doing something to harm your safety an them being upset on top of that is not all that great either. what would you do as the cop in that situation?
